The Story Behind “PEACE”

I wrote “PEACE” from a very personal place. The song was inspired not only by my own life experiences but also by my journey to Belize, which gave me an opportunity to reflect on life, culture, and the importance of staying connected to who we are.

Throughout life, we sometimes do everything we can to avoid conflict, protect relationships, and keep things calm. But in the process of keeping the peace, we can end up losing pieces of ourselves. That realization became the heart of this song.

For me, PEACE is about finding the balance between making peace with the world and remaining true to yourself. Musically, I brought together the soulful trumpet sounds rooted in my New Orleans heritage with Afrobeat and global influences, creating a sound that feels uplifting while delivering a deeper message about identity, healing, and authenticity. I believe real PEACE shouldn't require us to lose a piece of ourselves.

What Does FYC Mean?

FYC stands for For Your Consideration. It's part of the Grammy® Awards process, when Recording Academy members consider eligible recordings for nominations. PEACE has been submitted for consideration in Song of the Year and Best Global Music Performance.

This moment is about more than awards. It's an opportunity to share the message of PEACE with a wider audience and connect with people through music that encourages us to protect our peace without losing ourselves.
