Troy Sawyer is an accomplished soulful trumpet player and music educator from New Orleans, Louisiana. He comes from a line of great musicians including his cousin, Leon Bridges, and his great grandfather, Louis D. James (who played with and co-wrote songs with the great Buddy Bolden). He has shared stages with artist such as Jon Batiste, Lalah Hathaway, Harry Connick Jr., Wynton Marsalis, and more.
His band, Troy Sawyer and the Elementz, originated from a trio that rocked the New Orleans music scene after Hurricane Katrina. Their unique sound could be described as a gumbo medley infused with funk, rock, soul, jazz, and latin influence. This energizing concoction will blow your mind and rock your soul. Troy Sawyer and the Elementz released their debut album entitled Rock Your Soul on Louis Armstrong’s Birthday (Aug. 4, 2023).
Troy Sawyer is also the founder of Girls Play Trumpets Too, which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that empowers girls ages (8-19) to play the trumpet on a novice and an advanced level to enhance equal representation in a male dominant music industry.
